Wes and Jen have motivated me to post something new to my blog.

I know, I know, it has been a couple years now. I guess I never saw the blog as a great communication tool. Anybody who knows me well knows I keep my YouTube site (www.youtube.com/recinutah) current, but none of my other websites. The Eagle of Moab site (www.theeagleofmoab.com) is now over 3 years out of date. The Yahoo family site is still working good, but nobody posts pictures or information to it, only requests for newsletter submittals. My geocities site (www.geocities.com/sl5k5) used to be how I kept people informed, but I have long since given that up, converting it to a redirect site only.

But what do you all think? Who here would like to see more Mike Sumner Family updates on my blog? Or who would rather be content wait for emails or phone calls? Our family newsletter keeps people updated best, although it has been suggested by other siblings that we could publish the same information to a blog. I was thinking about Picasa for picture posting, but it doesn't offer the real back and forth communication like a blog.

The real problem these days is there are amazing ways to communicate but not enough people interested in spending the time to do it.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

First of all. Yaaaay!!! You posted.
For me it would be fine to have you blog, but really your question is what is the best way for everybody to stay in touch. A couple of comments. Blogs seem a little easier to update frequently than a webpage. Family newsletters are probably safer (though you can password your blog) but some people get excluded (like me) or get a lot of information about people they don't know. Facebook seems a good solution but for some reason I don't get into it enough. I can't personalize it I guess. The blog has made a couple of things easy for me. I have a list of people who get e-mailed everytime I post. So I am blogging and e-mailing at the same time. In turn they can easily comment or not with little pressure. I have been able to see what friends are doing by following links on the blog page. In the end I think it is easy for any forum you choose to go neglected. So I would go with the one that you like messing with the most. I have your blog and your youtube as an RSS Feed in my e-mail so I will know if you have done anything. (Which would explain why I am commenting a blog that has had no activity for 3 years the day it posted). Also you can link to pictures in flickr or picasa on your blog (which I have RSS Feeds on for those who have given me their flickr/picasa link). Anyways I recognize I am really biased right now because I just got into blogging, but I have really enjoyed it. It will be interesting to see what other people say. Although if you expect anyone to see your post you will probably need to e-mail them this time. Congratulations on getting my longest comment, for me, to date.
